Fordville, IL Can someone tell me where Fordville was in Williamson County in the early 1900's? rayj@midamer.net
Chamness - Isom and Henry I am looking for parents of Isom Chamness, b. July 1860, d. EastSt. Louis, IL, 1921. Never married. His brother, Henry Chamness, b. 23 Oct 1863 and d. 4 Feb 1942 in East St. Louis, IL, buried in Makanda, IL (my grandfather). Married Clara Frances Ferrill at Byr, Jackson Cty, IL. There must have been siblings as there was at least one nephew, Glee Chamness (from Wood River, IL)and a niece, Emma Chamness Lyerla,(from Cobden, IL). Know she had a least one brother because she had a nephew, Paul Chamness. All deceased. I can't go any farther on Chamness line until I find my great grandparents. Maplewood Cemetery I was at Maplewood Cemetery a couple of weeks ago...my great grandparents, W.J. and Mary Lloyd, my great Aunt and Uncle Lela and George Bourland and a cousin, James Clyde Bourland are all buried there. I was not able to locate their graves...could someone please tell me who and how to get in touch with the Sexton of Maplewood Cemetery. CHADWICK GRISSOM GRISSUM The 1880 Williamson Census lists David Chadwicl familty in the "8 (mile?) Precinct" with father "W", wife Lucy (nee Grissom), and children Maud and James. The next house lists a John Chadwick family. From research in the county, this was John W Chadwick who married Polly Roupe and had children Belle, Ada May, Mary and Georgia. This family moved to Jackson Co., IL. Also in Williamson Co., were Martha Grissom of Crab Orchard Precinct and Sanders Grissum & family. I am interested in any information on these four families. Where is Clifford, IL? Can someone tell me where Clifford and Fordville were located? I find my Grandparents in these places in about 1905 and 1908. I think it was near Energy. Albert, I believe, was buried in Johnson City. So is Mary Royster, mother of Albert, Sophia Jackson, Gilbert, Estile, Bessie. According to an obit., Mary died in 1937 in Johnson City. We have run into a road block with John. According to my Grandmother, (Bessie), John died in an accident. We don't know if it was in Henderson County, Ky or in Williamson County, Il. The family bounced back and forth. We have records showing a John marrying an Elmira Robards or something like that. We have found no records of accidents or death of John in Hend. Old #5 Coal Mine My grandfather worked in Old #5 Coal Mine around 1917. Does anyone have information on this mine? Does it have another name? I purchased the pamphlet, PICTURES OF COAL MINES IN WILLIAMSON COUNTY, while visiting your historical museum in May hoping to find reference to this mine. Shady Rest My wife and I are curious about the location of the former Shady Rest. All I've been able to determine is that it is in Williamson County somewhere near the Saline/Williamson line in the general vicinity of route 13. I'd really appriciate any help that could be directed my way as to the location where this infamous place once stood. Bradley Cobb Moses Thomas Hurley I am seeking info regarding my ancestor, Moses Thomas Hurley. He died in 1919 in a coal mine in Carterville. His death certificate states that he was crushed between a piller and a coal car. I have been told that the mine may have been called Federal Coal or possibly Blue Blaze. granite city high school years ago, my grandfather found a ring in springfield missouri. It was a class ring from granite city high school class of 1912. The initials are a.p. I believe it belonged to a woman because it is so small it barely fits on my pinkie and I have very small hands. I just want to find out who the ring belonged to. I will not give it up. John Fisher family of So. IL. I'm looking for information on the Fisher famiy of South Williamson Co., IL. John Fisher b. abt 1887 married Mary Zoller whom I believe is the daughter of Adam Zoller b. Apr. 1865 and Katherine Harsey b. Mar 1862. John and Mary had several children, one of which was my brother-in-law, Donald A. Fisher. Bennie, Florence and Frank, I remember well, but I'm not sure of the names of the other children. I found the 1900 Census of Williamson Co., Bambridge Precinct, Dist 123-8, and discovered Zoller, Adam, head and Catharine,spelled this way, as wife. They had the following children: Mary C., daughter, Mar 1888, age 12, IL; John J., son, Sept 1893, age 7, IL; Henry O., Aug 1896, age 3, IL; Matilda (spelled Atilln?), daughter, June 1898, age 1. Also living in household was Hursey, Nettie, sister, Dec 1870, age 29, single, IL., Ger., Ger. This information may help some of you out there. John Cook John Cook married Mandana Cardwell in 1881 saline co.ill. he lived in or near Corinth,ill. williamson co. WARD'S PARK I am looking for information, possibly photos, of Ward's Park, a road house operated by my great grandfather, Oscar Ward, in the mid 1930's and early 1940's. It was located on old highway 13 between Carbondale and Murphysboro. I know that is in Jackson county but Oscar lived in Marion, IL. Some of my family members recall that there were some small caged animals on the premises, including a monkey. Frizzell I am looking for descendants of Austin and Sarah (Sally) Smith Frizzell. They are buried in the Hurricane Cemetery along with some of their children. Sisney/George Families Looking for information on the Sisney or George families from this, and surrounding areas. My mother's father of record was William Edgar Sisney, and her mother was Goldie (Marjarie) Morgan/Sisney/George. Goldie married James George after William Edgar divorced her. There were 3 children from their marriage (Goldie & William Edgar)-Lyman Roger Sisney-born 1930, Hilda Louise Sisney-born 1936, and Elizabeth June Sisney-born 1939. Hilda was fathered by James George, while Goldie was still married to William Edgar, through an apparent affair. Ragsdales of Williamson Co TN Daniel Ragsdale,born abt 1788 in NC moved to TN and married Margaret Hewton in 1811. Their children were: William J.-Malinda-Dicey-Jane-Polly and Harvey H. Herrin City Cemetery and Bush Cemetery I am looking for information found in both Herrin City Cemetery and also the cemetery at Bush (I can't think of the name). Herrin contains many of my relatives, and the Bush cemetery does also. I am looking for information on Hewlett's, Vaughn's, Tyner's, McCree's, Boardman's, etc. Do you know if any one has transcribed any of these cemeteries completely. I have checked some of the partial listings on the internet, but they contain none of my relatives even though I know they are buried there.
